Filed Under (car insurance) by Admin

Independence and the prospect of mobility are not the only ones that come with being old enough to drive. There are also financial repercussions to choosing to start driving apart from the obvious expense of buying your own car. You have car maintainance expenses, gasoline expenses, as well as car insurance expenses. Unfortunately for young drivers, car insurance premiums are usually not as affordable as they hope it would be. Car insurance for young drivers is among those types of car insurance coverages that carry the most amount of premium. This is because the insurance company rates car insurance for young drives as something that exposes them to greater risks. Statistical data show that a large number of automobile collisions registered involve those who are aged twenty five and below. There is just not enough record of good driving habits to rely on when issuing car insurance for young drivers.

As most of these young drivers do not have permanent sources of income, other than their parents, the financial responsibility that comes with owning a car could prove to be unmanageable. This responsibility, however, is something that they cannot skirt around. Young as they are, they should already learn how to handle such a responsibility. This being so, their parents also have a role to play in guiding their young drivers in handling their finances – but, offering to shoulder their insurance premiums is definitely out of the equation. There are ways by which the horrendous premiums that are slapped on car insurance for young drivers. While it is impossible to find an insurance company that does not charge young drivers higher premiums on their car insurance policies, parents can actually help their children take steps towards reducing the amount of car insurance premiums they would have to pay.

One factor that could reduce car insurance premiums for young drivers would be their choice of car. Parents should be able to give their children some advice as they make their car purchase. Purchasing a high-powered car could drive their car insurance premiums up really high. Settling for a simple compact car would be a good choice – the car purchase and all other consequential expenses would be lower and more budget-friendly. Young drivers should also hold up on making alterations in their new car. Alterations like lowering the suspension could prompt the insurance company to jack up the premiums on the car insurance quote. It would be advisable to keep things to the very basic until such time that the right age has been attained by the young driver and a good driving track record has been established. These factors alone could already save lots of dollars in car insurance premiums.

Listing down a parent’s name as a secondary driver could also lower the insurance premiums of a young driver’s car insurance. This is especially helpful if the parent has a very good driving record and is free of any traffic violations. There have been a number of cases where discounts that parents with excellent records are entitled to are also applied to a young driver’s car insurance premiums. Young drivers, however, should not make the mistake of listing down their parents as the primary driver in hopes of lowering the amount they have to pay. If they are actually the ones who are going to be using the particular car to be insured majority of the time, listing down their parents as primary drivers will only render their policies null and void therefore not entitling them to any cash benefits should there be a need for a claim.
